What Is LivU?

LivU, sometimes written liv u, is a video call app that matches you with strangers on camera and lets you add the ones you like as friends to call again. It has been on Google Play since July 2017, and Clash Arts HK Limited of Hong Kong runs it.

Its web pages sell it as 1v1 video chat with live translation, gifts and camera filters, and a web version at livuapp.com shares the same account. Nothing starts without signing up: you log in through one of four routes and pass an age check, and LivU then matches you with nearby people first, widening to other countries when no one local is online.

Is LivU safe? Its basic tools are sound: video chats open behind a blur, a shield button reports someone mid call, blocking is permanent and silent, and a safety centre warns against moving chats off the app. The weaker side is money and data. Calls run on coins, strangers may ask for gifts, and the privacy policy says messages are read for more than abuse.

Who Runs LivU, and Why Its Terms Look Familiar

The terms name Clash Arts HK Limited, at Hopewell Centre in Wanchai, with Riley Cillian Ireland Limited in Dublin as its EU representative and separate payment agents for Europe and the rest of the world. On Google Play the app is listed under LIVU Team with more than 50 million downloads, while its about page claims over 100 million.

Set beside 1v1 Chat, LivU looks strikingly similar on paper. Both sites give the same Hopewell Centre room as their office and name the same UK distributor, and their terms share most of their wording, down to the three year limit on face scans. The documents still name different companies: Clash Arts for LivU, Mastercroff Developer Limited for 1v1 Chat.

Is LivU Free? What Calls Cost in Coins

It is free to install and to sign up, but talking for any length of time costs coins. LivU's help centre says regular calls cost 80 coins a minute, and a call to a friend costs whatever that person has set, between 80 and 120 a minute, shown before you accept. The web sign-up screen offers 150 free coins and says they cover 7 calls.

Coins come in packs from 299 to 35,000, sold as one-off purchases in the app, on LivU's own web shop and through the Codashop top-up site. Gifts are paid in coins as well, and the terms say purchased coins are always spent before free ones. They also allow prices to differ by your location or the payment channel you use.

Some of this is handled fairly. The full price of a pack is shown before you pay, the rate of a friend call is shown before you pick up, and nothing renews on its own unless you choose a subscription. The help centre is also plain about the model: the app is free to download with several free features, and premium ones need coins.

LivU reads your messages. Automated systems and staff review accounts and messages, and a flagged account gets a warning or a block.

Location is part of the service. If you allow it, your location updates automatically, feeds the matching algorithm and can appear to people who view your profile. Your date of birth cannot be changed after sign-up, and the Play listing says device IDs may be shared with third parties. Data sits on servers in the EU and may also be processed in Hong Kong and China.

Leaving comes with mixed messages. The terms and privacy policy give you 28 days to restore a deleted account, while two help centre articles updated in 2026 say deletion is final. Records of your contact with support are kept for six years after the account is gone, and the policy admits it cannot guarantee the security of data sent to it.

There are real safeguards too. You can turn location off, ask for a manual review instead of facial recognition and ask for your data to be deleted. The terms promise human review before a final decision on your account, and the Play listing says video chats start blurred and data is encrypted in transit.
