What Is Omega?

Omega, sometimes called Omega 1v1 chat, is a phone app and website for random video chat with strangers, run by EXU (HK) Limited in Hong Kong. Its Google Play listing, live since December 2019, calls it Omega Live video chat (earlier Omega Live video call and chat).

Matching is the core: press Start, meet someone on camera and skip to the next person. Around it sit New and Popular lists for picking people yourself, text chat with stickers and virtual gifts, real time text translation, and filters for gender and region. On Google Play it has passed fifty million downloads and holds a 3.6 rating from about 112,000 reviews.

Is Omega safe? It has the usual tools: a report button, a safety centre, suspensions for rule breakers and what its store listing calls a 24/7 AI system. Its own terms add a limit worth knowing: Omega says it cannot verify how old its users are and relies on what they state, so the protection depends a lot on other people reporting.

Who Makes Omega, and Why the Name Sounds Like Omegle

On Google Play the app is published under the name HOLLA Group, which also lists the HOLLA and Camsea video chat apps, and the developer contact is an address at holla.world. The terms name EXU (HK) Limited as owner and operator, and its Google Play address is in Causeway Bay.

The resemblance to Omegle is deliberate: the Android package is named ly.omegle.android, the website title calls Omega a free Omegle alternative and its About page says it was recognised as the top one in 2023. Omega is also a common app name, so a search can surface unrelated apps; the one covered here is the Google Play app from EXU (HK) Limited and the site at omega.app.

Is Omega Free? Coins and Plus Explained

Partly. Omega's help centre said in 2023 that random matches with no gender or region filter were free, and so was the app itself. Almost everything that gives you a say in who you meet runs on coins, the app's virtual currency, which you can buy or earn by redeeming points from daily tasks.

Coins are sold as in-app purchases, and the Google Play listing puts single items anywhere from 0.99 to 199.99 USD. The coin cost of a gender match without Plus is not stated in Omega's public help pages or terms, so check the price the app shows before you confirm.

Omega Plus is the subscription. A help page archived in 2024 lists the gender filter at 8 coins a match, up to 2000 coins a month, matching by region, a badge on your profile and gifts and frames for members. It renews automatically through the store you paid with, and the terms say a subscriber in the EU or EEA can ask for a full refund within 14 days.

Why People Look for an Omega Alternative

Omega does what it promises for a quick random call, and most complaints begin once you want more control over it. People looking for an alternative to Omega usually point to the same few things, and each one below is taken from Omega's own terms, help pages or store listing rather than from hearsay.

What Omega Collects and Who Can See It

Your camera is the biggest item. The privacy policy says your photos and videos may be captured by other users, and that such content can be stored and used by Omega or by third party services for moderation and safety monitoring. It lists SHUMEI, which receives photos and videos for risk identification and content review, and Agora, a real time video provider that receives video data.

The app also keeps track of how you use it. The policy says Omega may know how many people you have video chatted with and for how long, and it logs your IP address, device identifiers and the pages you visit. With your consent it can read your phone book and your precise location from GPS, Wi-Fi and cell towers.

Your profile is discoverable by other users unless you turn that off in settings, and anything submitted to a public part of the service called Local comes with a wider licence to share it. Data may be stored in any country where Omega operates, the policy will not promise that deletion happens within a set time, and the service is not offered in Russia, Belarus, Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea or Crimea.

There are limits in your favour. The Data safety section says data is encrypted in transit and you can ask for it to be deleted, and on Android the account can be deleted from the app settings. When archived in 2024, the help centre said deleting an account on the web version was still being built.
