What Is Joingy?

Joingy is a free random video chat site at joingy.com that pairs you with one stranger at a time, either on camera or in a text-only section. There is no account to create: you tick a box accepting its rules, pick text or video and are matched, and both of you appear to each other simply as Stranger.

It launched in 2018 and still calls itself a random video chat roulette. Its terms are governed by United States law, yet no page names the company behind it; the privacy policy describes the data controller only as the domain administrator. The homepage also promotes an Interests feature for matching by topic, but on the chat page that box is labelled Coming Soon and cannot be typed in.

On safety, the short version is that Joingy is moderated but not private. A Trust and Safety team works with detection systems and reviews spam flags, while the privacy policy says chats are logged with IP addresses and webcams may be captured for moderation. The safety and data sections below take each side in turn.

Joingy.com, the Missing App and the Lookalike Sites

Joingy's terms mention a mobile app, but on 25 September 2026 neither the US App Store nor Google Play listed one. On a phone it runs in the browser, and the chat page is particular about which: Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone. Open the video section in anything else and you get an unsupported browser notice instead of a match.

Other sites borrow the name. Pages such as joingy.app and joingy.fun present themselves as Joingy with their own chat buttons and FAQs, and nothing on them ties them to joingy.com, so check the address bar if you mean the original. Is Joingy Safe?

Safer than an unmoderated queue, and less private than it first looks. Joingy has a Trust and Safety team and detection systems running behind the scenes, and after each chat it asks "Was this a bot or spam?" next to a Flag Spam button that sends the stranger for manual review. What it lacks is a way to report during the call itself: the flag only appears once the chat has ended.

Joingy is not open to minors. Its terms say so twice, and the chat page makes you tick a box confirming your age before either section opens; that tick box is the only age step on the way in. The privacy policy, last updated in February 2021, has not caught up: it still describes younger teenagers using the site with a parent's permission, which the newer terms no longer allow.

The Community Guidelines are short and firm: no harassment, no spam or advertising, no automated programs, no sharing other people's private details, and chats kept in English where possible. Joingy's homepage asks for a family-friendly room, yet when a video call ends, the chat window shows a banner for a separate cam roulette hosted on another website.

Joingy's own design points to bots as its most common problem. The guidelines ban automated programs, and the one report button it offers is labelled for bots and spam rather than for behaviour in general. With no sign-up at all, that is the trade: nothing slows a real person down, and nothing slows a script down either.

A Camera Still Every 30 Seconds

While your camera is on in the video section, the chat page takes a small still of your own camera picture as it starts and then, by default, every 30 seconds, and uploads it to Joingy's moderation server. The privacy policy confirms that webcam screenshots are stored and used to check for rule breaking.

Your IP Address Reaches the Stranger

Video runs peer to peer, and Joingy's privacy policy says this makes your IP address available to the people you connect with. It adds that some software can intercept it, and suggests the text section to anyone who is not comfortable with that.

Skipping Has a Speed Limit

Move through matches quickly and the queue stops you with a notice that you are connecting with too many strangers and should try again shortly. For people who roll through faces until a conversation sticks, the pause lands exactly when it is least welcome.

Permanent Bans With No Way Back

A ban arrives as a notice of permanent suspension for severe violations, warning that further attempts will be monitored. The chat page sends a device fingerprint with every new chat, and no page describes an appeal. If a ban lands by mistake, there is no published route to put it right.

Interests Promised, Not Yet Working

The homepage invites you to add interests so Joingy can pair you with people who share them. On the chat page the same box is marked Coming Soon and will not accept text, so for now every match is random whatever you type.

Phones Need One Particular Browser

On Android the video section asks for Chrome and on iPhone for Safari; anything else gets an unsupported browser notice. Joingy's own FAQ also lists black screens as a known problem, pointing to camera permissions and patchy mobile data.

Put together, the picture is consistent. Joingy is quick and free, and it keeps order by watching: logs, camera stills, fingerprints and a rate limit on new chats. That suits some people. Anyone who came to random chat for a conversation nobody else keeps will want a service built the other way round, and the next section shows how much Joingy holds.

What Joingy Records and Who Sees Your IP

Joingy's privacy policy is plain about logging. Chat logs are stored with timestamps, the IP addresses of both people in each session are kept, and webcams "may be monitored" for moderation and law enforcement, including screenshots held on its servers. The policy was last updated in February 2021, and it describes the camera screenshots only in general terms; the chat page code shows how often they are taken.

Bans run on the same records. Before each chat, the page asks Joingy's server for a match and sends the fingerprint and camera list with the request; a device on the ban list gets the suspension notice instead of a stranger. The notice says incidents have been documented, but nothing on the site says how long those records last.

What you can do is ask. The privacy policy gives you the right to request a copy of what Joingy holds about you, to have it corrected or to have it erased, through the contact page. It sets no deadline for a reply, and it adds that no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

None of this is hidden; it is all in Joingy's own policy and code. It does mean the cost of a free, no-account chat is paid in data rather than money, and for many people that is the part worth changing.

Sites and Apps Like Joingy

Joingy alternatives are easiest to compare on two questions: what each one keeps from your chats, and whether it lets you choose who you meet. Similarweb's August 2026 figures put Chatroulette, Chatspin and Monkey closest to joingy.com, with Camsurf and Chatrandom further down the list, and most of them appear in the cards below.
