What Is CamSurf?

CamSurf is a free random video chat that has run since 2015: allow your camera, press Start and a stranger appears, then press Next for someone new. It is a cam to cam service on the web and on Android, operated by EF Communications LLC, whose address is in Sheridan, Wyoming, and it is not open to minors.

The screen stays simple. A text chat runs alongside the video for typing while you watch, a Country menu narrows matches to one country, and CamSurf sets your own country from your IP address. Its Android app has passed 10 million downloads on Google Play, with 3.7 stars from about 77,000 ratings. The name often gets split in two; even CamSurf's own FAQ writes Cam Surf in places.

On safety it lands in the middle for a free roulette: every stranger can be reported from the video itself, and there are moderators, automated checks and a written appeal route. The cost is privacy, because CamSurf's own policies let it capture moments from random chats, as the safety section below explains.

We compared the texts word by word: about 99 percent match, and beyond the menus what differs is the company name, the date and the suite number of an office address in Sheridan, Wyoming. The two privacy policies match just as closely.

Both sets of terms carry the same clause on partner integrations: your activity may take place on, or be visible across, sites run by the company or its partners that use the same proprietary chat platform. For anyone weighing a move between the two, that means a new logo on the page, with the rules behind it unchanged.

Is CamSurf Free? What Plus Actually Unlocks

Yes for the basics, no for choosing who you meet. Starting, talking, typing and pressing Next cost nothing, and you do not need an account. The choices most people care about sit in CamSurf Plus, a paid membership, and the account page lists the gender filter, the location filter and location hiding among the features you lose if you cancel.

Cancelling Plus takes two steps. The account page sends a cancellation request to your billing email, and you finish by following the link inside it. The same page warns that once you cancel, you cannot upgrade again until the current subscription has run out.

We found no Plus prices on CamSurf's public pages; its terms say plans and prices are shown at the moment of purchase. Google Play puts the app's in-app items between $7.99 and $89.99, and the terms add that anything bought through an app store is managed and refunded through that store.

Money spent is hard to get back. Tokens, gifts and subscriptions are final and non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, unused promotional tokens can expire, and cancelling does not refund the rest of a paid period. Buyers in the European Union may have 14 days to withdraw, unless they have already started using what they bought.

It also says the information it collects may be analysed with machine learning and large language models, which can include training them or sharing with third parties for that purpose.

Location comes from your IP address, and the privacy policy says CamSurf does not collect precise GPS data. Data is processed in the United States, and after an account closes CamSurf may keep hashed or truncated identifiers, such as a hashed email or IP signal, to stop banned users from signing up again.

CamSurf is also candid about the other side of the call. Its FAQ warns that someone may record your video without you knowing, and that neither you nor CamSurf may find out at the time, so it advises doing nothing on camera you would not want others to see. On Google Play, its data safety section says data is encrypted in transit and not shared with third parties.
